Haylley Johnson is the current Event and Communications Assistant for the University of Vermont’s new transdisciplinary research initiative and graduate program, the Food Systems Spire. As an avid lover of all things food, she is also cooking for The Blue Cat in downtown Burlington.
She graduated from UVM this past May summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a double major in English and Economics. During her time at UVM, Haylley worked for The Vermont Cynic, UVM’s student-run newspaper, first as a news reporter and — after three years of Cynical dedication to the publication — as Editor-in-Chief of the paper.
Fusing her passions for academics, journalism and food, Haylley spent time writing about food for Burlington Vermont’s local weekly newsmag, Seven Days, and her senior year, she wrote her honors thesis about “the recipe” in Italian American literature and culture. Her thesis may be found in the UVM archives.
